Superintendent's Welcome

Welcome to the Dawson County School System website!  Our website is designed to give the viewer an overview of our school system. While visiting our website, our goal is for you to find the website helpful, as well as, informative.  If you have questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact us with your educational needs. There are many options for children and youth involvement in Dawson County. We have very active extra-curricular activities in Dawson County including FFA, 4-H, Career/Tech Student Organizations, many service organizations, athletics, band, music, drama and art. I encourage parents to assist their children in exploring their interests.  This is a very important part of college and career readiness.

The Dawson County School System is committed to providing an efficient way for new families to join our school community. Families moving to Dawson County can complete all registration paperwork at our centralized registration location, which is located at the Dawson County Schools Technology Center, or online. The goal is to have a streamlined process that ensures a positive experience for new families.

In the upcoming school year, you will notice several safety upgrades that were driven, in large part, from input gathered at our school safety meeting held in spring 2018. Some of the upgrades include the hire of a Safe Schools Coordinator to assist with the strategic direction of school safety services, the hire of two new School Resource Officers to give added security to all schools, a buzz-in system to allow front desk staff to clear guests for entry. An alert system will also be added during the 2018-19 school year to give first responders accurate information concerning location if an emergency occurs.

We have several technology initiatives for the school year.  We will be implementing the final phase of the iPad initiative, which will add iPads for all 10th-12th grade students. Through this initiative, we have been able to provide all Dawson County students with iPads. This initiative is transforming the way our students learn, moving from a teacher directed experience to a student driven experience.  We have also moved to a single sign-on platform that allows students and staff to use a single login and password to access all available instructional tools.

There are several ways to keep up with school system announcements.  Feel free to follow us on Facebook @ Dawson County School System, Twitter @DawsonSchools, or sign up to receive text message alerts via Remind.  To sign up for text message alerts please click HERE and follow the instructions.

Please let us know if we can be of any assistance.  I look forward to a great 2018-19 school year!

A. Damon Gibbs, EdD Superintendent
